Valley View Elementary is BEARy Excited About Reading
A t Valley View Elementary (VVE), reading is important. Teaching the love of reading to our
children is a team effort. Leading this effort is Mrs. Velma Vela, VVE librarian. This year, she
has spearheaded various events to encourage children to read.
During Children’s Book Week, she encouraged children to read by pro-
moJng the “BEARy Excited about Reading” theme, where children were
encouraged to go to school with their pajamas and read to their favorite
stuffed animal. Another acJvity held during Children’s Book Week was
“Lights Out Reading.” During this event, the children turned off the
lights at the library, found a comfortable spot to read, and read to their
stuffed Teddy Bear. Children read quietly, in the dark, with their flashlight
focused on the pages of their book, and read and read.
On Veterans Day, Mrs. Vela promoted reading by encouraging everyone
to wear red, white, and blue and promoted the “Freedom and Literacy”
theme. Encouraging children to read as they showed their patrioJsm
and love for our country.
