16 De Septiembre!
At Valley View 5th Grade Campus we say “Viva Mexico.” On September 16, 1810 Roman
Catholic priest Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla gathered his congregation in the small town of
Dolores to give his famous speech “El Grito de Dolores” to encourage his people to ght for
their country against the Spanish colonial authorities. After 11 years of “El Grito de Dolores,”
Mexico gained their independence. Mexico celebrates that important date on September 15 at
11 pm with a ceremony at the National Palace in Mexico City. At 12 AM The President of
Mexico shouts “El Grito de Dolores” and the celebration continues till the following day. It is
an important Mexican celebration that will never be forgotten and that we will always be proud
to celebrate by wearing our Mexican out ts and it will always remind us to never give up no
matter how long the process may be to accomplish our goals.
