STAAR Reading Strategies for Parents
The federal program, Family and
Community Engagement offers several
ways in which parents can be involved in
their children’s education. Valley View ISD
26 ONE TEAM, ONE DREAM SPECIAL PROGRAMS & CHILD NUTRITION
values both the contributions at home and
those that take place at the school and
with the community. The district offers
opportunities for parents to become
involved in the education of their children.
This mutual collaboration facilitates the
learning and success in their studies and
positive social development. Each Title I
school is responsible for engaging their
parents and community members in a
meaningful way. Some opportunities
or ideas for parents to take an active

Speed Limit & Cell Phones
on School Zone
Cell Phones Are Prohibited While Driving Through a School Zone.
Texas school zone law, under HB 347, prevents using a cell phone
when driving through an active school crossing zone. This includes
property of a public elementary, middle, or junior high school for
which a local authority has designated a school crossing zone.
Exempt from this law, are vehicles that are stopped, drivers using
hands free devices, or making a call to emergency services such as
police, medical, fire or other first responders.
